Gift card deals: where discounted gift cards are actually real

Updated October 17, 2026 · Offers checked on the live store listing, with the time we checked

A real gift card deal means you pay less than the card's face value, bought from the store or the brand itself. We only list an offer after checking it on the live listing, and we drop anything we can't confirm. Same rule as our deals: price-history checked deals, 20%+ below the usual price, clearly labeled; we only call it a glitch when it's verified. Most gift card deals are smaller than 20% off, so we label them as plain gift card discounts, not deal alerts.

How we measure a gift card deal

Discount = (face value − price you pay) ÷ face value. A $100 card for $90 is 10% off face value. We never compare against a made-up "was" price.

"Buy X, get Y" offers are bonus value, not a discount. If you spend $50 and get a $10 bonus card, we call that "$10 bonus value (20% of what you paid)." Bonus cards often have their own start and expiration dates, so read the fine print.

Promo codes can end at any time. Check the price in your cart before you pay. Gaming store cards sold in the US are generally for US accounts only, so check the region on the listing.

Warehouse clubs sell gift cards too, but read their rules before you stock up. From each club's official help pages (checked Oct 17, 2026):

Bonus-value offers around Black Friday

Around the holidays, many stores run "buy a gift card, get a bonus card" promos. We list them as bonus value: the extra card is a separate promo card, often with a start date, an expiration date and exclusions. If you wouldn't shop at that store anyway, the bonus isn't worth much. We'll add specific offers here once we've checked them on the live listing. Also see our Black Friday price errors guide.

Gift card scams and fine print

From the FTC's Avoiding and Reporting Gift Card Scams: "No real business or government agency will ever tell you to buy a gift card to pay them." The FTC also says:

Our rule: never buy "discounted" gift cards from social media sellers or resale listings. Check the card's terms for region locks and what it can be used for. Before any deal, run through our deal verification checklist.

Quick answers

Are discounted gift cards legit?

They can be, if you buy from the retailer or the card brand itself. The FTC advises sticking to stores you know and trust and avoiding online auction sites, because gift cards there may be fake or stolen.

How do you measure a gift card discount?

Against the card's face value. A $250 card for $222.22 is 11.1% off face value. A "buy one, get a bonus card" offer is extra value on top of what you paid, so we label it as bonus value, not as a percent off.

Can you return a gift card?

Usually not. Costco says its Shop Cards are non-refundable, and Sam's Club says gift cards are not returnable or refundable for cash except where state law requires it.

Do I need a membership to buy gift cards at Costco or Sam's Club?

For Costco Shop Cards, yes: Costco says you must be a member to buy one, though non-members can use them in its warehouses. Check each club's own pages for third-party cards.

Do you earn money from these links?

No. The store links on this page are plain links, not affiliate links.
